What is the issue addressed in this article?
It was an update on how students are responding to No Child Left Behind in 2007 compared to 2000 when they started it.
What was main point of article?
The main point of the article was that they believe that No Child Left Behind is working because math scores from 2000-2007 increased several points, and the gap between scores of whites and minorities slowly closed. Reading scores did not increase as dramatically as math scores, and the gap between minorities showed no improvement.
What have we read that relates to this topic?
- We have talked a lot about the No Child Left Behind policy in class, and other than the short explanation from our book this was one of the first article I had read on it.
What opinions did the group have about this issue?
I was surprised to read that a lot of teachers like the No child Left Behind policy. They admitted that they are always teaching to the test, but they said that they feel like the students were learning more, and the standards help them identify when a student is struggling and help them know exactly what to do.
